National Karting Calendar Released

Tasmanian State Kart Championship confirmed for 27-29 November at Launceston Kart Club

Karting Australia has confirmed the dates and venues for several upcoming State Championship events that form part of the National Karting Calendar.

While restrictions continue to change regularly across the country, Karting Australia believes it is viable to plan for upcoming State Championship events in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia and to confirm tentative plans for the resumption of major national events at the back end of 2020.

“We do not have to rely on State border restrictions being altered for the State Championship events, which allows us to plan for those with a high degree of certainty,” said Karting Australia Chief Operating Officer Lee Hanatschek.

The Sapphire Coast Kart Club will host the NSW Kart Championship on September 25-27, this will be in concurrence with the Mid West Kart Club in Geraldton hosting the WA Kart Championship on the same weekend.

October 2-4 will see a combination of the Cooloola Coast Kart Club, Ipswich Kart Club and Warwick Kart Club host the Queensland Kart Championship in Ipswich.

The final weekend in November will see the Launceston Kart Club host the Tasmanian Kart Championship and the Southern Go-Kart Club host the SA Kart Championship at the Bolivar Raceway.

“The challenges are significant but we are continuing to plan for the recommencement of the SP Tools Australian Kart Championship presented by Castrol EDGE and are in frequent dialogue with International Karting Distributors about what Rotax Pro Tour could look like,” said Hanatschek.

At this stage, the AKC is anticipated to consist of two more events (November 6-8 and December 4-6) and the Rotax Pro Tour a single event (October 23-25).

Karting Australia believes that announcing a location at the current time for the above National Events would be premature due to the changing nature of travel restrictions. These will be advised in due course.

Drivers who have pre-paid for the 2020 Australian Kart Championship will have the unused portion of their entry fees refunded in the coming days and will be required to enter for the re-scheduled events when they open.

As has been the case all throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic, Karting Australia’s number one focus has been the health and well-being of its Licence Holders, Members, Officials and Volunteers.

An Important Message from Karting Tas

The Karting Tasmania Executive, Officials and Club Delegates met on Wednesday 25 April reviewing the current situation with COVID-19 within Australia and Tasmania. Under advice from Karting Australia, medical advice, Tasmanian Government directives and operational requirements it is unfortunately required for Karting Tasmania to cease all karting operations within Tasmania for a while.

The restrictions apply as of midnight tonight (Thursday 26 March):

  • All race meetings will be cancelled/postponed until 30 June 2020
  • Private practice will be not available until 1 May 2020

As karters, we all need to take responsibility for the future of Karting in Tasmania and ultimately, Australia. Karting Tasmania’s Executive and Clubs have not made this decision lightly and will review these restrictions and requirements regularly. Karter’s are required to follow these requirements at all times.

If karters do not follow these requirements or are found to at a karting facility for private practice, all licensed persons at the track will have their license suspended for a period of up to twelve months.

We thank all karters for their understanding during this period of uncertainty. We look forward to welcoming you all to race meetings when we can continue. We would welcome you to follow Karting Tas’, Facebook Page for further information and updates. Further information will also be emailed out from Karting Tasmania where required.

Yours in Karting,
Karting Tasmania Executive, Clubs and Officers.
