Murphy, Bricknell, Wrigley and Pinfold Take the Spoils at NWKC Legends/Daniel Johnson Memorial MeetingIt was certainly a weekend of contrasts at the North Western Kart Club’s Legends/Daniel Johnson Memorial race meeting held at their Highclere circuit on the 16th of June 2013. The feature classes saw some of the youngest drivers (Rookies) vying for the Daniel Johnson Memorial trophy and also some of the oldest drivers competing to add their name to the winners list of the Over 40 and Over 50 Feature. And although the meeting was held under blue or slightly cloudy skies the temperature proved to be quite cold. The cool track conditions played havoc with a lot of the competitors kart set-ups with most looking to find grip on the slippery surface.

Brodie Evans wins McDonalds Young Guns

Brodie Evans has joined a long list of some of the best Junior drivers in Tasmania by winning his first McDonalds Young Guns Title at the Launceston Kart Club. The McDonalds Young Guns has been held continuously since 1998 and has been won by some of the states best drivers over that time. The format of a one off 20 lap race at a combined weight of 130kg and a randomly drawn grid normally ensures the front rows try and make a break away for the win whilst the front runners that draw rearward grid positions try and get through to the front as quickly as possible. This year was no exception with the title going right down to the wire. With the club opting to offer the majority of the senior classes at a pro weight it allowed drivers to race against some new faces and tackle some fresh challengers.

2013 Tasmanian Statewide Series Finals

Champions Decided As Wild Weather Strikes At The North Western Kart Club TitlesAfter three rounds of perfect weather the typically unpredictable Tasmanian weather struck back and drivers were forced to break out the wet weather gear for the fourth and final round of the 2013 Tasmanian Statewide Series and North Western Kart Club Titles held on the 23rd and 24th of March at the Highclere Circuit. Although the track was wet for the majority of racing there were times when the track dried enough to return to slick tyres and the majority of the finals were held in these conditions. These conditions proved to be a help for some and a hindrance for others in their quest for one of the twelve Tasmanian Titles up for grabs. Mitchel Evans had an excellent series taking out two titles, TAG Light and Clubman Heavy. A truly outstanding achievement by the Hobartian and his number one pit crew, father Steve. There were also seven drivers who broke through to record their first Tasmanian Title which was a fantastic result.

Twelve New Club Champions Crowned at Launceston Kart Club Titles Round 3 Of The 2013 Tasmanian Statewide Series The third round of the 2013 Tasmanian Statewide Series proved to be a complete contrast to the previous round with only three drivers scoring clean sweeps and most classes seeing more than one winner during the heats. The weekend’s results have really shaken up the series standings with some drivers putting themselves into unassailable positions in the championship whilst others saw their points advantage disappear. Racing was held in perfect conditions with the weather providing two warm, sunny days and the Launceston Kart Club complex once again showing why it’s amongst the best in the country.

Wet Weather Hits Launceston Kart Club Titles

Launceston Kart Club - Wyllie Tiles Carpet Call Club Titles, September 23rd 2012
In some of the worst conditions seen at the Launceston Kart Club for many years’ competitors still battled it out for the Club Title sponsored by Wyllie Tiles Carpet Call.
The day started out with a mainly dry track for qualifying, however two torrential downpours during the day meant that all pre finals and finals were held on a track that resembled a river on some occasions.
Cadets again produced some very tight racing between Brock Lamont and Lachie Dalton. Lamont held on for victory from Dalton and rounding out the podium was the fast improving William Reeve, who has just come off his P-plate.
Rookies was won by Tayla Heath, however she had to battle hard against both the weather and Hobart’s Zevie Eisentraut who took it right up to Heath in the heats. In the end Heath won the final from Eisentraut and Andrew Lee.
In JNL, Gemma Wyllie showed the boys how to drive in both dry and wet conditions. Wyllie won both heats, pre final and Final in a dominating display. In the final, Brodie Evans took right up the Wyllie but could not knock her off the top step of the podium. Young Cameron Kuc, who had a great tussle with Wade Mclean during the closing laps, filled the final step on the podium.
JNH was won by Morgan Jakobovski who also won all four races on the day. Jarius Holmes was the best of the rest.
The combined SNL & SNH class was a battle of four all day with Jay Bailey taking the honours in Light from Kelsey Sapwell and Stuart Wells. SNH was dominated by Jamie Bricknell who raced wheel to wheel with Light all day and won heat 2 outright. Best of the remaining Heavies were Michael Vaughn and James Pinfold. A notable absentee from the wet races was Launceston Jonathan Males who elected to keep dry.
Clubman Light was another class dominated by one driver. Nathan Zuj showed his younger rivals what experience really means winning four from four. Alastair Lee and Brodie Appleby were both unable to stay on track in the wet to challenge Zuj in the final. Dillon Van Galen showed some great wet weather driving to secure second from Jobe Sims.
Clubman Heavy became a Troy Stone benefit after a number of his rivals elected to pack up early. Stone won the final from Josh Musket and Brodey Lovett, who was making his senior debut.
TAG Restricted Light was won by David Sherriff from Renee Chettle with the remaining drivers unable to finish in the wet conditions.
TAG Restricted Heavy saw Jason Close take top spot on the podium from Mathew Clark and Jeremy Green.
The TAG 125 final was started on a drying track with Steven Wrigley opting for slicks, but this went a bit pear-shaped when rain started to fall only two laps in. Jake Rice, who had won all day, chose the wets and won the final from Matthew Distill and Jade Waddington.
Over 40’s was again dominated by Michael Vaughan, showing his rivals no compassion by winning all four races. In the final Vaughan beat home Tim Hinds and Stephen Sapwell.
Scott Wrigley in Over 40’s Super Heavy did a similar job by simply dominating the class. Stuart Lee came home in second from Alistair Fairley in the wettest race of the day. Finals Results Full Results

The 2012 running of The Launceston Kart Club’s annual Senior National Feature race meeting had the majority of the state’s best drivers suiting up and enjoying the close racing that “J” racing provides. Some big names including a former World Karting champion adorn the perpetual shield and all the drivers were keen to add their name to this very select list. One hundred and seven entries across eleven classes made for an action packed program. Throw in the Phil Goss Memorial for Over 40’s Pro and the stage was set for a great weekend’s racing.

Wild Weather Strikes At The Third Round Of The 2012 Tasmanian Statewide Series
On March 3rd and 4th the North Western Kart Club held the third round of the 2012 Tasmanian Statewide Series. Unfortunately, the weather forecasters got it right for once and heavy rain and wind lashed the Highclere circuit for the majority of the weekend. Some competitors even chose not to compete on the Sunday after enduring the conditions on Saturday. Some of the finals however were held on a dry or drying track which really threw the form guide out the window. It was also very much a case of green girl power as three (nearly four) lady Tony Kart pilots took wins in their respective classes.

New Competitors Spice Things Up At The Second Round Of The 2012 Tasmanian Statewide Series
On February 11th and 12th the Southern Tasmanian Kart Club held the second round of the 2012 Tasmanian Statewide Series. 117 competitors flocked to the Orielton circuit with many turning up on the Friday to get in some extra testing. The weather forecast predicted rain throughout the weekend and competitors were prepared for a drenching. Fortunately it failed to eventuate allowing for some of the best racing of the series so far. Come finals, the track had substantially improved and competitors smashed their qualifying times. Steve Crocker even managed to set the lap record in his class. This round also saw several new competitors joining the series to throw a cat amongst the pigeons.

At the time of retirement they had a sixteen second gap over eventual winners Aiden Shelton and Brad Segda. They eventually had a comfortable win over Matthew Coates and Nathan Zuj with Matthias Schrepfer and Jarrod Garwood taking a well deserved third place. The combination of Zane Wyatt and Lee Mitchener, who eventually finished fourth had the fastest lap time of 35.046 seconds. For full results click the "Read More" button.
