This completes a family quinella after
Talented Victorian Daniel
McLeod won Junior National Light earlier in the day in a borrowed Birel kart. In the McDonald's Young Guns feature (at
130kgs) Daniel was launched heavily into the safety barrier in the tyre warming roll round laps, forcing the field to abort the
start whilst he was given a check up by the first aid attendants. He was
allowed to rejoin but suffered engine failure on lap five whilst running fifth
after starting out of position 15.
Evans and Crack worked
together to pull away from the field with the Evans Energy leading for the
first 12 laps then Crack the next six . Evans pulled out of the slip stream and
passed under brakes at the end of the fast back straight with two to go. The
move looked as if it would be reversed on the next lap but Evans out smarted
Crack by using the inside line forcing the Birel
driver to the outside and ruining his run to the finish.
Jake Sale ran most of the
race in his new Trulli Kart a distant third until the
wirey fast finishing Phoenix drivers of Mitchel Evans and Josh Burdon worked together to pass him
on lap 15. But it was all too late as the leaders had pulled out far too much
of a gap.
Zane Wyatt (Tasmanian
C.A.M.S. Karter of the year) kept the crowd
entertained with a stunning display of speed in his twin Rotax
air cooled kart in winning the open class.
